چکیده
The influence of climate change and anthropogenic activities (e.g., water withdrawals) on groundwater basins has gained attention recently across the globe. However, understanding hydrological stores storage) in one largest deepest artesian basins, Great Artesian Basin (GAB) is limited due to poor distribution monitoring bores. In this study, Gravity Recovery Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite ancillary data from observations models (soil moisture, rainfall, evapotranspiration (ET)) were used assess changes terrestrial storage (GWS) variations GAB its sub-basins (Carpentaria, Surat, Western Eromanga, Central Eromanga). Results show that there strong relationship GWS variation with rainfall (r = 0.9) ET 0.9 1) Surat some parts Carpentaria sub-basin (2002–2017). Using multi-variate methods, we found primarily driven by sub-basin. While account for much observed spatio-temporal 0.90 at 0–2 months lag), Eromanga 0.10–0.30 more than 12 lag) suggest effects human extraction GAB.

Assessing Terrestrial Water Storage and Flood Potential Using GRACE Data in the Yangtze River Basin, China
Floods have caused tremendous economic, societal and ecological losses in the Yangtze River Basin (YRB) of China. To reduce the impact of these disasters, it is important to understand the variables affecting the hydrological state of the basin. In this study, we used Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite data, flood potential index (FPI), precipitation data (Tropical Rainfa...
متن کاملGRACE Gravity Satellite Observations of Terrestrial Water Storage Changes for Drought Characterization in the Arid Land of Northwestern China
Drought is a complex natural hazard which can have negative effects on agriculture, economy, and human life. In this paper, the primary goal is to explore the application of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) gravity satellite data for the quantitative investigation of the recent drought dynamic over the arid land of northwestern China, a region with scarce hydrological and met...
متن کاملDesert Springs of the Australian Great Artesian Basin
The Great Artesian Basin (GAB) underlies about one fifth of mainland Australia. Much of this area is arid or semiarid and often artesian water is the only reliable source of potable water, historically via springs. Prior to the 1870s, there were around 3,000 flowing springs ringing the GAB. The springs were a vital source of water for Aborigines as well as early explorers, workers and pastorali...
متن کاملField estimates of groundwater discharge – Great Artesian Basin, South Australia
Understanding the water balance of large groundwater systems is fundamental for the sustainable management of the resource. However, measuring many of the major components of the water balance pose considerable challenges and are thus estimated through modelling. A shortcoming of the modelling approach is that the water balance may have high bias and uncertainty due to insufficient information....
متن کاملFramework for incorporating spectral observations into steady state analysis of groundwater discharge around the margins of the Great Artesian Basin
Diffuse groundwater discharge (also known as vertical leakage) forms an important and poorly constrained component of the water balance of the Great Artesian Basin (GAB), Australia’s largest groundwater resource. Around the south-western margin of the GAB, the diffuse leakage from the artesian aquifer discharges into the unconfined water table and subsequently into the atmosphere via evapotrans...
